Teemings

Wing (zero)

Twenty one and one more Year
They told us that the end was near.
They said the war’d be over soon.
And some of us believed.

The light ran across the Captain’s face
What happened, he asked, and no one knew
The Men stood firmly in their place
And not one dared to move.

The Mechanic panicked and shouted out;
He knew what the bomb was all about!
He didn’t know how, and he didn’t know why
But the men stood firm and refused to die.

The Operator, of course, knew it all.
And with a keystroke and a wave,
The screens lit up across the board
And the men thought they were saved.

The man had only half a face
And the other half was rock.
He told the truth, the simple truth
And the men reeled back in shock.

Conquered be the base upon which our dreams are built.
Conquered be the land upon which our blood was spilt.
Conquered be the cities which we thought would never fall.
Conquered be the places which are holy to us all.

The men fell to their knees and cried
No more orders and no more lies
With hands in prayer and watered eyes.
And they laid down flat and hoped to die.

But then the captain clenched his fists.
And stood up proud and tall.
He looked at the men who served him well
And screamed a fearsome call.

They are fools if they believe that they can bend a Just man’s will!
They are wrong if they believe that they can take us lying still!
The walls of Truth can not be breached by cannonballs and spears!
The city of Justice can not be razed by hatred, lies, and fears!

The captain laughed a hearty laugh and the men arose once more.
They looked down at the books and papers scattered about floor.
With mighty clap and sudden stroke the fools had lost their wigs.
The men stared up at the naked sun and bred fire from stones and twigs.
