Vegas Flyer (Chapter 7)

Margaret hung up the phone. James was asking a lot of
her. He was asking her to leave everything and to leave her home for how
long...forever? She had never truly been in love with this house or city
for that matter, but she didn't know all of the circumstances. The only thing
she knew for sure was that she loved her husband unerringly. Whatever he
had gotten himself into she would have to go through it with him. At least
the situation had provider her with the opportunity to tell the old man about
his son. What really surprised her was that Boardman had just sat there through
out the whole story and never blinked an eye. She knew then that her story
had come as no surprise to him and was in fact; probably mild in comparison
to some of the things he had done for Willie to keep him out of trouble in
the past. It was sort of pitiful she thought. She began to change clothes.
For better or worse it was time to toughen up or get off the boat. There
was a lot to do and she had to get busy doing it. She looked up the number
and dialed the realty company. Don Harrison was surprised but cooperative.
"Come by the company and I'll have your check ready. I
can't advance you the money from the company, but I'll write you a personal
check. I can pay myself back from the eventual sale. I don't want to pry
Margaret but can you tell me what's going on? Is James in any kind of trouble?"
"Later Don, I am not even sure I know myself yet. But
I promise I will let you know."
"Well tell James if he needs anything...anything at all,
just let me know ok?"
"Thank you Don.... I will be there shortly." Next she
packed a few things, enough for a weeks stay somewhere, then called a cab.
It arrived thirty minutes later and honked. She took one last look around,
got Jasper by the collar and slipped out the door. She gave the driver the
address of Harrison realty.
