Even Superheroes Can Cry

by True Pisces

You see the scenes of destruction
That have brought grown men to their knees
Crying in the frustration and anger
For how much we’ve lost
And yet you stand tall,
The same emotions playing across your face,
Not allowing a single tear to escape
From your brimming blue eyes.
You offer your arms in support
To those whose emotions overtake them
And your anger to those
Who only use this as a photo op.
I ask if you’re okay
Putting my arms around you,
Trying to take the burden
From your overflowing shoulders.
"Let it out if you need to,"
I whisper in your ear.
"But Superheroes can’t cry."
You still hold it inside.
"Sometimes they can take a break,"
I try to get you to see.
"There are no breaks until it’s over,"
You tell me as you walk away.
