Untitled

by Persephone

For the vast majority of my life,
I have been a flower
Surrounded by trees.
I have yearned to be strong,
To be proud,
To stand tall amongst
The living forest
That is my heritage.
I have felt myself wither
And nearly die.
But all the time the trees around me
Stood firm,
Their roots giving me life,
Their branches encircling me,
Stubbornly refusing to abandon me.

When I awoke this morning,
My petals had fallen away.
Budding leaves had taken their place.
Soon I will have my place
In the forest.
