This section of Teemings Extras features what has probably become the most popular thread ever on the Straight Dope Message Board. Fingolfin started a thread asking a simple question : what would "The Lord of the Rings" sound like if it had been written by someone else. The thread started out slow, got bumped a few times, made Threadspotting, and then got slashdotted and all hell broke lose. We decided to feature it here for two reasons: firstly to take some of the load off of our brand new server. Secondly, and more importantly, some of the writings that people came up with were just brilliant. To be sure, it is a hit or miss proposition. Some pieces fell flat and some felt incomplete. But mostly it was a work of genius by the Teeming Millions and all of the newer people that just drove by to visit and contribute.

It's going to take a while to get the whole thread onto this site. I'll be adding them as quickly as I can, but at over 1000 posts and climbing it could be a lifelong process. If anyone has entries that they don't feel like putting on the board but would like to see here, send them to me at euty@disneyshorts.org and we'll get them up.

Important Note : It has come to my attention that some posts on this thread have been plagiarized from a similar thread on The Barrow-Downs Message Board. I have been in contact with the original authors and they have not asked that the pieces be removed, but that they get correct attribution which I have gladly done. Any entries you see with the superscript 1 have come from this site.

Please bring any other instances of plagiarization to my attention as I have had it done to me as well and I don't particularly appreciate it.

Many thanks to av8rmike for coming up with a marvelous index, to Gaudere for the nifty banner graphics, and to Tir Tinuviel and Michael Bell for helping with the HTML coding. 1280 parodies are currently listed.
